TORRAS Coolify Portable Air Conditioner Neck Fan Review

TORRAS Coolify is one of the most popular portable air conditioners, designed to be worn around the neck. When I was researching a handsfree neck cooler, I couldn’t pass it by. What stopped me from buying it immediately was the price; it cost several times more than the regular cooling solutions for the neck.

But eager to test more and more devices, my curiosity got the better of me, and I succumbed to the temptation. And here it is in my hands for personal testing in real life. At the beginning of the review, let me answer the question:

What Makes TORRAS Coolify AC Different from Other Neck Coolers?

There are two major differences that really matter:

• TORRAS Coolify blows cool air. The device efficiently decreases the temperature of the airflow through dedicated technology, while regular neck fans only produce airflow with the temperature of the air around you. If the air around you is hot, these other fans blow hot air.
• TORRAS Coolify decreases your body temperature (on the back of your neck) immediately—in 3 seconds, by 18°F.

How Does TORRAS Coolify Portable AC work?

The adopted technology is similar to the one used in some refrigerators. There is a 0.9 x 0.9 inch ceramic semi-conductor radiator built in—the Ku Peltier Radiator. A semiconductor cooling plate exchanges the heat energy that it produces. The coldness produced is transmitted to the skin within ONLY 3 seconds and actually lowers the body temperature by 18°F.

Let me resume what makes the difference and what makes the TORRAS Coolify Portable Air Conditioner Neck Fan a different and successful cooling solution from a technical point of view:

• The Ku Peltier Radiator produces heat, which is exchanged by a semiconductor cooling plate so that coldness is transmitted to the skin.
• The metal plate is on the back of the neck.

Actually, there are cooling solutions trying to adopt the metal plate design, such as – JISULIFE Ultimate Neck Fan. There is an aluminum plate at the inner side of the U-shaped neckband, BUT – there is no cooling solution to decrease the body temperature.

As I tested this fan myself too, I can confirm that the metal plate prevents sweating in sizzling summer days, but without a built-in cooling technology, there is no air conditioning.

Design and Color Options of TORRAS Coolify AC

TORRAS Coolify looks stylish and luxurious with a glossy finish in black and white with golden elements. The two color options have fancy names: Brilliant Black and Pearl White.

As you can see from the pictures above, the portable AC comes in an elegant plastic box with a semi-transparent lid, called the Space Capsule Case. In it you can store and transport it. When you open the case, you see the device, a cable with USB-A to UCB-C connectors and instructions:

Speaking of care, there is also a textile bag that can be put on the device for protection when it is not in use. If your fingers leave marks on the fan’s surface (since it’s shiny), you can easily remove them with the bag.

As you can see, this portable air conditioner is not big in size. I can even say that it is quite elegant, but I must admit that it is a bit heavier compared to competing devices. Here are the actual dimensions and weight:

Looking at the device, there are two silicone “rings” that allow you to adjust the size. Holding the two ends, you can slide them apart and together as if you were opening or “closing” the device and adjust the direction of airflow within 135 degrees.

Thanks to this flexibility, TORRAS Coolify is also suitable for people with small or not-so-small neck. Unlike the previous model – you cannot twist the neckband; you can only open and close it. There are air inlets on the back side of the neckband – at the opposite side of the metal plate.

Let me draw your attention to the metal plate – this important cooling element. It has a golden coating that provides a luxurious finish. So are the round air intakes at the ends. They are labeled – which one is on the left and which one is on the right? Even though the device looks symmetrical, there is a left and a right side, and there is a reason for that.

Actually, there are two reasons. One of them concerns the air outlets. They are located at the top and bottom. 70% of the cool wind flows through the air ducts on the upper side and 30% through the air ducts at the bottom.

If you put the cooler correctly, the cool wind will blow 70% upward toward your face and 30% downward toward your neck. If you place it upside down, the stronger wind will hit your neck and not your face.

Powerful 3D airflow at 3 speeds

TORRAS Coolify operates at 3 speeds producing a light breeze, a mild wind, and a cool wind. The powerful airflow is 214% stronger, compared to the previous model, provided by:

• A 5000 rmp dual-core high-speed motor.
• 60 enlarged fan blades collecting the wind.
• 36 expanded wind outlets.

The air exits in two directions – upwards to cool the face (70%) and downwards to cool the neck (30%). The wind direction is 135 degrees adjustable because of the silicone material used for the neckband.

Besides the different wind speed, the airflow can be normal and cool. If you press the power button shortly – you switch between the three gears. But if you press and hold it for 1,5 seconds, the cooling option is activated.

The airflow becomes colder, and the metal plate cools down to reduce your body temperature immediately in just 3 seconds.

Battery Capacity, Battery Life, Charging Time and LED Indicators

This portable AC for neck is powered by two 2 Lithium Polymer batteries with a total capacity of 4000 mAh. They provide energy for up to 8 hours of operation. The battery life depends on the selected speed and if the cooling option is on.

This means that you can use the cooler from 8 to 2 hours. It can run for 8 hours at speed 1 and create a light breeze and 2 hours if you choose the cool wind speed (the strongest) and turn on the cooling mode.

LED Indicators

There are 3 LED indicators that inform you about the battery status – how much power is available in the battery.

• 1 LED is on: 1/3 battery capacity left;
• 2 LEDs is on: 2/3 battery capacity left;
• 3 LEDs is on: full battery capacity.

Charging Time

The fan supports fast charging and a fully charge takes at about 2,5 hours. There is a cable – USB-A to USB-C in the packet.

Extremely quiet

The fan is surprisingly quiet. The noise emitted is only 31 dB, while most of the neck coolers produce more than 45 dB noise.

Evolution and Upgrade

Compared to Other Models

I have already discussed similarities and differences with other models. There is a similar in design neck fan – with a metal plate on the inner side of the neck band. This is JISULIFE Portable Ultimate Bladeless Neck Fan. Anyway, there is no effective cooling solution, so besides the similar design it also is not a portable air conditioner.

TORRAS Coolify L3 is exactly the same BUT without the cooling semiconductor system, so it is not actually a portable AC. In addition, as I mentioned earlier – you can twist its neckband, while TORRAS Coolify’s – you cannot.

Torras Coolify was launched on March 30, 2021. A new model, – TORRAS Coolify 2 – was released a few months ago in 2022. It uses the same semiconductor cooling technology and has a similar design. There is no golden coating over the air intakes nor on the metal plates.

Yes, the cooling metal plates are already two—one on the left and one on the right. Again, there are three speeds, but the battery life on a single charge is much longer—18 hours. It’s not as long as the cooling is on—only two hours since the cooling plates are two, not one like TORRAS Coolify 2021.

And another difference is that the new model TORRAS Coolify 2 has e heating option, while the previous model doesn’t.

Verdict

TORRAS Coolify (2021) is a great portable air conditioner to be worn on the neck – so using it your hands remain free. It is suitable for outdoor use – having fun on the beach, camping in wild nature, relaxing on the patio, grilling for friends and family, on a picnic with loved ones, in a car without air conditioning and in offices where the air conditioning system does not cool you well enough.

Apart of the regular neck fans, it provides a real cooling relief by reducing body temperature through a semiconductor cooling technology. I definitely recommend it for that reason. If you don’t need heating, it is the right option to buy.
